Some dream of the sea, others dream of stone: Calabria's villages are medieval treasure chests where a wedding takes on an intimate, timeless dimension. Climbing alleys, carved portals, little squares where the party inevitably involves the whole town.

From Norman Gerace to Fiumefreddo Bruzio overlooking the Tyrrhenian, from Pizzo with its castle to Stilo with its Byzantine Cattolica: each of these villages is listed among Italy's most beautiful. Photographing them is a privilege, and knowing them one by one is my trade.

A village reportage has a special rhythm: getting ready in a stone house, the procession on foot through the alleys, elders applauding from their doorways. These are the images that will move you to tears in twenty years.
